China hosts collaborative and forward looking sustainability seminar

The recent FIM Academy and FIM International Sustainability Commission seminar took place in Fengxian, Shanghai, China. It was attended by numerous professionals from both the international and domestic motorcycle sports sectors who gathered to learn about and discuss the application of sustainable development concepts in motor and motorcycle racing events.

The event was inaugurated with the participation of key leaders and representatives from the sport and public sectors, signalling a shared commitment to sustainable development.

In attendance were He Jiandong, Vice-President, Automobile and Motorcycle Sports Federation of China (CAMF); Kattia Juarez Dubón, FIM International Sustainability Commission Director; Chen Wenhao, Director, Fengxian District Sports Bureau, Shanghai; Yang Jiebing, Deputy Director, Fengxian District Sports Bureau; Ni Ming, General Manager of Hehui Investment Group and President of H&H Sports; Gong Hongguo, Director, CAMF Sports Department among others.

Ms. Ni Ming stated in her welcome speech that the launch of the FIM Sustainability Commission Training in China is highly significant. It reflects the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme’s strong commitment and leadership in promoting sustainability and it will also greatly support the development of management talent for MXGP and related events, helping advance China’s event operations in a more scientific and standardised direction.

Director Chen Wenhao stated in his speech that since the MXGP China round settled in Fengxian, Shanghai, it has received high recognition from the FIM and all parties involved. Fengxian is accelerating the development of an “International Outdoor Sports City” with MXGP at its core, promoting the deep integration of business, tourism, culture, sports, exhibitions and agriculture to continuously amplify the event’s driving effect. The organisation of this training programme is an important measure to support the high-quality development of the event.

Vice-President He Jiandong stated in his speech that, as sustainable development has become a global consensus, motorcycle sports must also accelerate their transition toward greener, low carbon and sustainable practices. The purpose of this training is to align with international standards, enhance industry capabilities and cultivate professionals who combine both sustainable concepts and practical skills, thereby promoting the high quality development of motorcycle sports in China. He also encouraged participants to cherish this learning opportunity, apply what they learn and integrate sustainability principles into every aspect of event operations, while outlining specific expectations for the training programme.

Ms. Kattia Juarez Dubón, FIM International Sustainability Commission Director, was specially invited to serve as the keynote speaker. As an internationally recognised expert in this field, she provided participants with an in depth presentation that combined a systematic knowledge framework with extensive practical experience, offering both forward looking insights and hands on guidance.

The two day course adopted a diversified teaching model of “learning + discussion + output”. After completing the structured lessons, participants were divided into four groups – Motocross, Rally, Enduro and Road Racing – to conduct in depth discussions based on different event types. They transformed the knowledge they had acquired into concrete ideas and solutions that were then presented and explained on site.

All participants successfully passed the assessment and received official Sustainability Steward licences from the FIM. This not only signifies an improvement in their individual professional capabilities, but also helps build an important talent pool for advancing the sustainable development of motorcycle racing in China and across Asia. It provides a solid foundation for their future involvement in green event operations and for stepping onto the international stage.
